In my opinion, no home is complete without a statement chair. This is your chance to add colour, style, and a touch of flair.

If you are lucky, you can get a valuable item that has been handed down from generation to generation. If not, check out vintage markets, online auction sites and even charity shops, which are all great places to look.

These are, in my opinion, 5 of the best statement chairs to look out for!

Parker Knoll

Parker Knoll is sometimes considered a “safe” or “boring” furniture choice, but when paired with bold fabrics, it takes style to a whole new level. There are more Parker Knolls than any other furniture brand. The quality and craftsmanship of these well-made chairs and sofas are always top-notch.

Have you got a Parker Knoll chair and want to give it a new life? This type of furniture brand is known for its superior craftsmanship, well-made sofas and chairs that make a beautiful statement piece in any home. My favourite Parker Knoll style is The Statesman among all the styles available. A very iconic rocking chair and swivel chair.

Part of the appeal for me is its versatility. Many people have fond memories of growing up with Parker Knoll in their homes. Despite being a nostalgic brand, the designs are still relevant today.

Ercol

Ercol furniture remains a strong favourite of mine due to its timeless simplicity and functionality. Ercol’s designs were created by Lucian Ercolani in the 1920s and today focus not only on modern furniture design but also on its sustainability and environmental innovation.

A key feature of all Ercol designs is a tribute to wood, with elm, ash, beech, oak and walnut from naturally regenerating forests all included in the range. With a minimalist and sober design, furniture reupholstery is a way to refresh or upgrade the look.

Chesterfield

This iconic sofa is one of his most famous pieces of furniture in the world. Said to date back to the 17th century, the style is named after the 4th Earl of Chesterfield. It is said that the Count wanted a place where the gentleman could sit without creasing his suit and hired a local craftsman to come up with a solution. The result is a luxurious (usually leather) structure with a deep seat, low back and high armrests. Support and comfort are incredible feats of this furniture engineering. Chesterfield is often replicated but never beaten! But equally, it’s not cheap either!

Napoleon

A French-style chair based on the design of Napoleon III’s reign. It became hugely popular in decor. Elegant and versatile, your heart beats faster when you come across a chair like this. Even more so if you find a pair!

They can pick up almost any fabric or print and the end result is always amazing. Don’t worry too much about the condition of the wood. Aside from live woodworms being a problem, the wood can be sanded, varnished or even painted to make it gorgeous again.

There are many duplicate versions. I’m not suggesting you run into antique shops for originals but beware of some of the more modern pieces that are below average in terms of quality.

Mid Century

Mid- Century furniture originated in the mid-20th century and is characterised by its gentle curves, clean lines and organic shapes. Its elegant simplicity and timeless aesthetic make it incredibly popular in contemporary interior design. Often described as being retro, you’ll find a lot of pieces on auction sites or in charity shops. If you’re lucky you can pick up a bargain, but recent upcycling trends of this particular style, mean decent, cheap pieces are quickly snapped up.

What’s your statement chair style?

Do you have a statement chair style not on this list, or have you picked up one of these and have it proudly stood in your living room? Or, are you looking for some tips on upcycling? Let me know in the comments!
