Holidays with your dog can be one of life’s greatest joys – but it can also be a bit of a logistical puzzle! Whether you’re planning a dog-friendly holiday, a weekend getaway, or a long road trip, having the right gear is essential for a smooth, stress-free experience – for everyone!

One product we’ve come to absolutely swear by for day trips and longer, is the Travel Dog Pod 2.0 from Luther Bennett. It made all the difference on our recent holiday to Wales – not only in the car, but also when settling Toffee into unfamiliar accommodation.

A dog bed that goes wherever you do

Toffee is a homebody at heart, so the idea of new places and new smells can sometimes leave her a little unsettled. That’s why I was thrilled to find one product that that doubled as a secure, familiar den – wherever we were. Without the need to cart her crates and beds around with us.

The Travel Dog Pod 2.0 is more than just a travel bed for dogs – it’s a portable safe space. It’s beautifully designed, easy to carry, and folds down into a cute lounger. The sturdy sides and memory foam base gave Toffee that feeling of security and comfort – in the car and at our destination.

As soon as we arrived at the holiday cottage, we set up her pod in a quiet corner with a good view, with her food and water bowl set up nearby. After her initial exploration around her new digs, she soon recognised her familiar space and settled down. I was worried that she might want to be on the sofa with me all the time, but she actually preferred to doze in her dog pod!

Dog travel essentials: What else we packed

Alongside the travel pod, there are a few other dog travel essentials that helped make our trip smooth and stress-free. If you’re planning to travel with your dog soon, we highly recommend adding these to your list:

Toffee’s own dog travel backpack

Having a dedicated bag for Toffee’s things – food, treats, toys, spare harnesses, collars and leads, poo bags – made packing (and unpacking) a breeze. Some dog travel bags come with food containers and collapsible bowls too.

I have cool bags I used to keep food cool during our journey and keep it tidy when we got to our accommodation. No carting around great big bags of food or packets of meat.

Travel bowls

Toffee’s own enamel Syd & Co adventure bowl complete with lid. Great for preparing meals ahead of going on a big hike when I was too tired to prepare when we got back to our lodge. I’d get her evening meal ready before we left, pop on the lid and put it in the fridge. Perfect for al-fresco feeding!

Don’t forget to bring along a water bowl too. Some accommodation may provide this if they are super dog friendly, but it’s always easier and more familiar for your dog for them to have their own.

A first aid kit for dogs

Accidents can happen, so it’s good peace of mind to carry some basics – I always carry a doggy first aid kit as part of my hiking gear.

A doggy drying coat

Whether it’s muddy paws, getting caught in a rain storm or a river dip, Toffee’s Pastel Pooch Boutique dog drying coat is one of our travel essentials. Pop it on and she’s dry and clean in around half hour. It’s fully washable too so throw it on a quick wash and its good to go again!

Familiar comfort items

We brought Toffee’s favourite blanket which helped her settle wherever we were. At night she snuggled up on her dog pod under her blankie and she was happy as larry!

We also made sure she had some long-lasting chews like her antler to keep her occupied and to work off any stress she might have. Lickimats and other enrichment items are also great to help relieve stress in your dog.

Why we recommend the Luther Bennett Travel Dog Pod 2.0 for holidays with your dog

If you’re searching for a dog travel bed that’s actually practical, the Travel Dog Pod 2.0 really does tick all the boxes:
