There’s no hiding the fact that neon is making a comeback. Whether in fashion or in your home, neon design makes a bold statement. But, if you love neon decor and want to embrace the trend, how do you use it in your home whilst still remaining tasteful?
This post contains gifted items, thoughts and opinions are my own.
Embracing the neon decor trend
I admit it, I have embraced the neon decor trend. I had always in the past, opted for neutrals or cottage styles thinking that they worked best in my surroundings. But realised that actually, I can embrace neon decor and it can look amazing.
The neon aesthetic is perhaps usually associated with modern interiors, but I’ve seen more of it being used to create an interesting, bold contrast in period properties.
The change for me happened after getting a new rug. It was an impulse purchase I wasn’t sure would go with the rest of my living room. And it didn’t, but there were small changes I could make that would make it work. And finally, I could really enjoy adding a bit of brightness using neon in my traditional property.

Neon Signs
Neon signs are often associated with nightclubs and the 80’s but have seen increased popularity in home decor too. Whether you opt for a bold statement, a motto or even a personalised name or logo, a neon sign will make a real statement in a room. Neon87 kindly gifted me a neon sign and it’s absolutely amazing, really bold and so bright and effective at making such a bold statement.

I have one of their shop ready best seller mini neon’s but they also offer a custom service too. Of course, I opted for pink, but with such a wide variety of neon colours available you’ll be spoilt for choice. All are made to order from their base in Exeter.

Neon feature wall
If you are wishing to make an extra bold neon statement, then you may investigate a neon feature wall.
Many paint companies now offer a neon range. There is even the option of neon wallpaper. Either a full on neon wall of funky wallpaper or patterned paper with neon accents. Whatever your bag, there are plenty of options.

Don’t want to make such a bold statement using a full wall? Then why not get creative with some neon accents – make the most by painting alcoves, paint some edges or stencil directly onto the wall.
Furniture
If like me you rent, or don’t want to paint or wallpaper, then you could get creative with an accent neon chair or perhaps channel your inner DIY’er and upcycle some furniture.

You could even get inventive with mirrors and picture frames. The neon possibilities are endless!
Art work
Ary is another fantastic way of incorporating neon decor into your home. You may want to invest in some original artwork direct from the artist. I’m a particular fan of abstract landscape artist Carolina Gruner from Finland. Of course there are both originals and prints available to suit different budgets.

If you’re seeking a cheaper way to add some neon pop art. You could investigate framed posters. There are so many places to get such posters now but one of my favourites is Punk Haus – purely for their funky options and boundary pushing prints!

Accessories
If you really want to make the smallest of a neon statement, then you can do so using accessories. There is no limit of neon accessories on the market, from candles to cushions, to lamps to plant pots. There is even neon crockery to really set your table apart from the rest.
Accessories make a finishing touch to any room and even in a classic style room, a neon pop really hits the mark!
Lighting
We’ve obviously covered the neon signs and what they can add to your room, but what about other neon light options?
Fluorescent tubing can be used to create a funky feature, or use neon strip lighting to create a pop of neon colour to the edge of a shelf, around a piece of furniture or perhaps under a sofa!

Get neon decor creative
One of the ways I’ve really enjoyed adding some neon is through my own creativity. I’ve done some of my own art work and I’ve painted and upcycled furniture. I may have a go at painting some plant pots too.
There is something satisfying about creating something beautiful yourself which adds an element of joy to your home.
So tell me, have you embraced the neon trend?
Peace out!
