Reading Time: 5 minutes

As I look at booking a mini weekend break away, a year since my last holiday, I’ve decided to put together a UK destination wishlist.

We wanted somewhere within reasonable travel distance to home, as we’re only going away for the one night, we didn’t want to spend all our time travelling on a motorway before being able to finally relax.

Previous trips away have always been to Mid Wales, I consider it home and we’ve enjoyed a couple of stays at Trallwm Forest Cottages as not only are they beautifully remote, but are dog friendly!

Tawny Owl, our last holiday in November 2016. A roaring fire, cosy nights with the girls and even some snow. It was amazing!

I wrote about our first couples trip to Wales as a guest blog post for Mid Wales My Way.

This time however, we wanted to go somewhere new.

Cornwall seemed too far and Devon I go to a lot for work and both seemed to be a bit over our “spur of the moment” budget! One place we’d had our eyes on for a while, was Goodwood. So there we are, a weekend away at the Goodwood Hotel. Of course, we hope the weather is nice to enjoy the wider estate, and get to take the Aston for a good run too! How very British!

When we have the opportunity to get on a longer break, I have these on my destination list:

Pin me for later!

Lake District

I visited the Lake District as part of a school trip way back when. I particularly remember how beautiful it was, water skiing on Lake Windermere, and lots and lots of walking.

It’s the furthest north I’ve ever been (I think) and would love to get back there again. It’s the perfect place for relaxation and getting away from it all. Plus…Kendal mint cake – I developed an extremely unhealthy obsession for this stuff whilst I was there. I only hope it’s as good as I remember!

Isle of Skye

I remember being insanely jealous of a friend when I was at Primary School, because her family had a place on the Isle of Skye. At the time, I didn’t want to go there because of it’s remoteness or outstandingly beautiful scenery, I wanted to go because you had to get a ferry across from the mainland.

Both appeal to me now, the idea of spending a few days in complete remote bliss appeals to me more than anything else. I wouldn’t care if the only thing I could use my phone for was for taking pictures!

Edinburgh

Famous for it’s Castle and various other historic monuments and buildings, and the largest arts festival in the world, Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

I’d love to visit during it’s Christmas markets. We’ve talked about doing a trip as part of our Christmas festivities at work, but when it’s come down to it, we’ve backed out. However, with it being barely an hour flight from Bristol, there really is no excuse!

I’d probably take a trip on one of the Ghost Tours!

London

Ok, I’ve been to London several times, but mostly for work. I’ve not done the whole tourist thing since I was a child, and even then that was a shopping trip with my Mum and Nan who thought they’d surprise me with a train and Christmas shopping trip to Worcester. Imagine my disappointment when we didn’t get off at Worcester and they told me instead we were going to London.

I cried, then cheered up, and thoroughly enjoyed Harrods! However, I’ve not been since then, shopping or touristy stuff (and I was about 10 at the time!). Although I did recently get to see the top of the London Eye from a training centre I was based at…

I’ve been on the tube twice now and consider myself somewhat an expert..!

I can successfully navigate from Paddington to Borough!

I wouldn’t even need to shop. Well OK, maybe just a little bit!

Isle of White

Born in Portsmouth and with family still living in the area, I get to go back occasionally. Although I love the countryside, there is something calming about the coast – perhaps its because my dad and other family members have been in the navy. Perhaps I’m a sea girl at heart rather than a country girl?

Anyway, I’ve been to the Isle of White – I don’t remember it, my dad took me when I was little. I vaguely remember the Hovercraft trip, and most definitely would choose this as my mode of transport to the island again.

Perhaps during my next trip down south I should schedule in a visit to the Isle of White again. I expect it’s pretty special any time of year!

Anglesey

I’ve actually never been that far up in Wales, a FB friend and lady I’d met through Boxer dog rescue lives there and is always posting amazing photographs. I’d love to visit it. A wide range of wildlife and scenery to explore and photograph. Beautiful!

I guess those would be my top 6 destinations, but other places I’d love to spend some more time in that isn’t work, is Dorset, Devon and Cornwall. I may live in the Cotswolds but there is plenty of places I’m yet to discover here, particularly more toward Oxford. When I have the time, I’ll definitely get out there and visit more places – even if it’s just a day trip! And of course, there will always be visits back “home” to Mid Wales.

What’s on your UK destination wishlist? Perhaps you can give me some inspiration!

Peace out!

    1. Well we have just had our weekend at The Goodwood hotel but it was very much a ‘room service’ weekend where we barely left the room and just chilled so would definitely return there. The food was amazing. I quite fancy a seaside resort next though!
